Dear CMS Family,
We will NOT run a Late Start Schedule tomorrow, September 30th. Our first Thursday Late Start Schedule will be Thursday, October 14. This will not impact transportation routes. On Thursday, October 14, classes will start at 8:20. Students may be dropped off anytime between 7:30 - 8:20am.
September 24, 2021
Greetings,
I wanted to take the time to inform you, our stakeholders, about an upcoming change at Cody Middle School. Our teachers currently utilize Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to drive instruction and ensure lessons are addressing the academic needs of our students. This is one of the most effective practices used in education. Knowing that, we have tried to ensure that our teachers have adequate time to use the PLC process to its fullest potential. Currently PLCs are taking place often early in the morning, late at night, or during the time specifically set aside for teacher lesson planning and grading.
To address this, we will be instituting a late start on Thursdays, each week, starting Thursday, October 14th. School will start at 8:20am, rather than 8:00am. The most important part of this message that I can convey moving forward is that this will not impact drop-off or bussing in any way. Students will still be dropped off at the same time and the bussing schedule will not be altered. We understand the potential impact that would have on our families and have no intentions of causing that kind of undue stress.
The overall impact of the day will be minimal, while the impact on instruction and student learning will be large. On Thursdays, passing periods will be reduced by 30 seconds and classes reduced by 1 minute and 30 seconds. These small schedule changes will address the 20 minute late start.
From 8:00am - 8:20am, students will be separated by grade level throughout the building, either in the gym, cafeteria, or library. Staff will provide supervision, and students can use this time to work on homework, collaborate with peers, or simply relax before the school day starts.
I want to provide as much clarity as possible and, in doing so, I will be holding a brief forum at the middle school on Wednesday, September 29th from 5:00 - 5:30pm to answer questions. I will also be available any time during parent teacher conferences to answer questions regarding the work of our PLCs or the implementation of the late start schedule.
I appreciate all of the support you provide to Cody Middle School. As we move through this transition, if you have concerns, please reach out at 307-587-4273. Again, this change will not impact drop off times or transportation in any way, and it will have an immense positive impact on the educational experience of our students. Thank you for your time spent reading this and have a wonderful weekend. Go Broncs and Fillies!
Respectfully,
Nathan Tedjeske, Principal
Jacob Gogan, Assistant Principal

Remote Learning Expectations
Hello, my name is Nathan Tedjeske; I’m the principal at CMS. I wanted to lay out some expectations that we have of students while they are in a remote learning environment, as well as some expectations that families should have of the school. If at any time, you have any questions about these expectations, feel free to call us at 307-587-4273.
Attendance:
• To be counted present during a remote learning day, students must email their advisory teacher that day. An example of this could simply be an email saying “Hi Mr. Smith, just checking in today”. If a student has questions for a specific teacher, reach out to that teacher at their Park 6 email.
• Online instruction will only be provided to students in quarantine or isolation. Students who are absent due to other illnesses will not be provided online instruction.
Online Learning:
• Students can access their classes content, assignments, and Zoom links on their Canvas page.
• Assignments are still due during a quarantine/isolation situation and to receive credit for these assignments, the work must be completed and turned in on Canvas, unless specifically directed otherwise by the teacher.
• Students who are attending a zoom session should exhibit the following:
o Be respectful and on task
o Be dressed for school
o Answer Questions when prompted
o Mute yourself if there are loud noises in the background
o Complete classroom assignments as if attending in person
o Alert the teacher if something is unclear or you have missed directions or instruction
• If there are technical problems, we will try to address them at that time, but they may require further assistance from the tech department.
Communication:
• CMS teachers will only be communicating with CMS students through platforms approved by the district (email, Canvas, Zoom, etc.)
• Allow for 24hr response times for emails.
• If facing technology difficulties, please reach out to our front office at 307-587-4273
We understand the difficulties that the online learning environment can present and are always available to help. Please call 307-587-4273 and we will support our students as best we can. For questions regarding quarantine, isolation, duration dates, please ask for the school nurse when you call.

Dear Cody Middle School Families and Students,
Our Cody Middle School Broncs and Fillies have started off the year well! However, with COVID cases on the rise throughout Park County and the school district, we wanted to reach out and provide some clarity concerning COVID and how it is being addressed at the school level. Our intention is to provide our CMS Family with some information pertaining to our health and safety protocols currently being implemented at Cody Middle School.
CMS students and staff are continuing to social distance when possible. Some classrooms simply are not big enough to accommodate the 6-foot social distance guidelines, so masks have continued to be recommended but not required. Our CMS Nurse has continued to work hard at contact tracing and communicating with families.
Cleaning and sanitizing protocols have continued across all PCSD#6 Schools. The CMS custodial staff has been working daily and diligently to keep our school clean and sanitized. CMS is currently in the process of updating our HVAC system to include a bipolar ionization feature that deactivates harmful substances like bacteria, mold, allergens, and viruses in the air.
Frequent hand washing is continuing to be encouraged and hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the school. Our number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of our staff, students, and their families. We want to make sure our doors stay open and that students can continue with in-person learning. Park County School District #6 recently communicated out the most recent guidelines on exposure and quarantine procedures. I have included that information below.
Close contact exposure with a COVID-positive individual at school will result in:
Quarantine - An unmasked student will be required to quarantine.
Remain in School - A student, properly wearing a mask that covers the mouth and nose, will not be required to quarantine as long as they remain asymptomatic.
Remain in School - A vaccinated student will be required to wear a mask for 14 days and may remain at school if they remain asymptomatic. (Per CDC Guidelines with proof of vaccination.)
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Go Broncs and Fillies!
Respectfully,
Nathan Tedjeske - Cody Middle School Principal
Jacob Gogan - Cody Middle School Assistant Principal
CMS Community, Families, Parents, and Guardians,
We will be holding our annual Back To School Night next week, Wednesday, September 8th from 4:30 - 6:30 PM. CMS Staff will be available to meet with you and answer any questions you may have. We are looking forward to meeting everyone, and thank you for your continued support of Cody Middle School! Go Broncs and Fillies!
Hello CMS Families!
We are excited to announce that this year, Thompson Portrait Studio will be taking the school pictures for Cody Middle School during PE classes on September 8th and 9th.
With picture day fast approaching, below are ways to make the day easy on everyone. Your order form and payment will be required on picture day, so check with your middle schooler as they will be given
this form sometime this week or next in their advisory class.
• Please have your order form(s) completed and your package selected. One child per order form!If you have multiple children, please enclose the cash or check in each separate envelope.
• Be sure to include all information requested on the order form. If we have questions, we will need to contact you directly.
• Have your child(ren) bring the order envelope with them to their picture time. They will be collected by the photographer as the they are photographed.
• We choose the best image and print it in the package/add-ons that you ordered. Doing this will speed up processing time so you have your pictures back quickly. We have had less than a dozen retakes in 13 years due to expressions. However, if you are not happy with your child’s expression, we will retake the picture at no cost to you or refund your money. Simply return your entire photo package to school on retake/make-up day.
• Please call or text at 307-250-1192 or email thompsonportraitstudio@gmail.com if you have
any questions.
CMS Families, Parents, Staff, and Students,
Thank you for an amazing 1st Day of School! We were able to kick off the new year in style! It was great to see staff, students, and parent volunteers connecting and having fun together. We have uploaded an album (2021 CMS First Day of School) to our facebook page if you want to see our Broncs and Fillies on their first day of school
CMS Families, Parents, and Students,
Welcome Back to Cody Middle School! We are excited to be opening our doors and welcoming in all of our CMS Broncs and Fillies for the new school year. CMS has a new administrative team this year and both Principal Tedjeske and Assistant Principal Gogan are anxious to meet all of our families, parents, and students. We wanted to reach out to our CMS family to keep them up-to-date on all of the exciting things happening at CMS this week!
First, our school is open to the public Monday, August 23 and Tuesday, August 24. Folks are invited to drop by and meet the CMS staff, tour the building, figure out lockers, and get settled in before the start of the school year.
Second, our first day of school will look a little different this year. CMS Staff will be meeting students of all grade levels at the front doors this year. Schedules, if not already received, will be handed out to students at this time. Students will enter the building in different areas, according to grade level. All CMS Staff will be on hand to meet students, help with any locker issues, and answer any questions. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:50 AM. At 8:00 AM students will report to their first (1st) period class.
From 8:25 to 11:30 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will rotate through different stations throughout the school.
At 11:36 AM, depending on their schedules, students will report to either their Advisory, Lunch, or Recess period. During this advisory period students will be receiving their Chromebooks.
From 12:52 - 3:30 , students, according to grade level, will again rotate through stations. CMS Admin and teachers will be reviewing the Student Handbook, Standard Response Protocol for emergencies, as well as answering any student questions.
Students will be released from CMS at 3:30, and that will complete their first day for the 2021 - 2022 school year!!
Family / Parent Drop Off and Pick Up
For families and parents dropping off and picking up students, please be patient. CMS will utilize both lanes for pick up and drop off. Please be sure to follow the flow of traffic and watch for students crossing the street. We know the first day of school can feel overwhelming, but please do your best to follow CMS Administration and Staff directions. Our goal is to unload and load students in an efficient and safe manner.
School Nurse Note
Each student will need to continue to bring their own water bottle this year. Students will not be provided with paper or plastic cups throughout the day. Also please be sure that if your student has a health plan or needs any medications while at school that those are brought into the nurse. Our nurse will be sending a more detailed email about vaccination records, emergency health plans and prescribed/over the counter medications soon.
Chromebook Device
Students will receive their chromebook device during advisory classes on the first day of school. The computer protection fee of $25 is due by then and can be paid for at the front office.

Greetings Everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying the summer. My name is Nathan Tedjeske and I'm the new principal at Cody Middle School. I wanted to have the opportunity to get to meet some of the families of our students this upcoming school year, as well as give people the chance to meet me as well. On July 6th from 9-11 and July 15th from 1-3, I will be at Rawhide coffee to do just that. There is no agenda and it isn't formal, but it is a chance to sit down and have a conversation and get to know one another. I hope that the available times give people the chance to stop by, but if neither time works and you'd still like to meet, email me at nathantedjeske@park6.org and we'll set something up. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of the summer!

CMS Update- the mask exemption request from the Park County Health Officer was received on Saturday. This allows for masks to be optional in the school setting. At CMS, we ask that all students, staff and parents/guardians be respectful of the choices each person makes in regards to one’s personal choice. Those that want to continue wearing them are free to do so, those that do not want to wear them are free to take them off. Thanks for your help and we are glad that all sides have this option.
