3 Day Weekend
Dear CMS Community, Each year the students of Park 6 School District hold a fundraiser to support our veterans in some capacity. This year’s project, ‘A Wave of Patriotism’, is two-fold. 1) The funds will be used to gift an American Flag to every downtown business so they can continue the long-standing tradition of flying an American Flag year around. 2) The second focus of our fundraiser is the engraving of Marine Lance Corporal Rylee McCollum’s name on the Freedom Memorial at the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park. Rylee, who lived in Jackson, was one of the 13 American heroes that died in Afghanistan while assisting in evacuation efforts on August 26th of this year. How can CMS student body be a part of this "Wave of Patriotism"? The National Junior Honor Society has planned a fundraiser that will run Monday, October 25th through Friday, October 29th. How can YOU contribute: 1) Students are welcome to wear a hat on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday for $1. Donations will be collected by NJHS students outside of the Library/Media Center 2) Milk jugs with student grade levels will be placed in the library for students to donate any spare change. The grade level that raises the most money will get a prize in their Advisory classes on Tuesday. Last year CMS really showed its generosity by raising $1,832.99 for the Veterans Quilt project. Let's do it again!

Late Start Alarm
September 24, 2021 Greetings, I wanted to take the time to inform you, our stakeholders, about an upcoming change at Cody Middle School. Our teachers currently utilize Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to drive instruction and ensure lessons are addressing the academic needs of our students. This is one of the most effective practices used in education. Knowing that, we have tried to ensure that our teachers have adequate time to use the PLC process to its fullest potential. Currently PLCs are taking place often early in the morning, late at night, or during the time specifically set aside for teacher lesson planning and grading. To address this, we will be instituting a late start on Thursdays, each week, starting Thursday, October 14th. School will start at 8:20am, rather than 8:00am. The most important part of this message that I can convey moving forward is that this will not impact drop-off or bussing in any way. Students will still be dropped off at the same time and the bussing schedule will not be altered. We understand the potential impact that would have on our families and have no intentions of causing that kind of undue stress. The overall impact of the day will be minimal, while the impact on instruction and student learning will be large. On Thursdays, passing periods will be reduced by 30 seconds and classes reduced by 1 minute and 30 seconds. These small schedule changes will address the 20 minute late start. From 8:00am - 8:20am, students will be separated by grade level throughout the building, either in the gym, cafeteria, or library. Staff will provide supervision, and students can use this time to work on homework, collaborate with peers, or simply relax before the school day starts. I want to provide as much clarity as possible and, in doing so, I will be holding a brief forum at the middle school on Wednesday, September 29th from 5:00 - 5:30pm to answer questions. I will also be available any time during parent teacher conferences to answer questions regarding the work of our PLCs or the implementation of the late start schedule. I appreciate all of the support you provide to Cody Middle School. As we move through this transition, if you have concerns, please reach out at 307-587-4273. Again, this change will not impact drop off times or transportation in any way, and it will have an immense positive impact on the educational experience of our students. Thank you for your time spent reading this and have a wonderful weekend. Go Broncs and Fillies! Respectfully, Nathan Tedjeske, Principal Jacob Gogan, Assistant Principal

Cody Middle School Remote Learning Expectations Hello, my name is Nathan Tedjeske; I’m the principal at CMS. I wanted to lay out some expectations that we have of students while they are in a remote learning environment, as well as some expectations that families should have of the school. If at any time, you have any questions about these expectations, feel free to call us at 307-587-4273. Attendance: • To be counted present during a remote learning day, students must email their advisory teacher that day. An example of this could simply be an email saying “Hi Mr. Smith, just checking in today”. If a student has questions for a specific teacher, reach out to that teacher at their Park 6 email. • Online instruction will only be provided to students in quarantine or isolation. Students who are absent due to other illnesses will not be provided online instruction. Online Learning: • Students can access their classes content, assignments, and Zoom links on their Canvas page. • Assignments are still due during a quarantine/isolation situation and to receive credit for these assignments, the work must be completed and turned in on Canvas, unless specifically directed otherwise by the teacher. • Students who are attending a zoom session should exhibit the following: o Be respectful and on task o Be dressed for school o Answer Questions when prompted o Mute yourself if there are loud noises in the background o Complete classroom assignments as if attending in person o Alert the teacher if something is unclear or you have missed directions or instruction • If there are technical problems, we will try to address them at that time, but they may require further assistance from the tech department. Communication: • CMS teachers will only be communicating with CMS students through platforms approved by the district (email, Canvas, Zoom, etc.) • Allow for 24hr response times for emails. • If facing technology difficulties, please reach out to our front office at 307-587-4273 We understand the difficulties that the online learning environment can present and are always available to help. Please call 307-587-4273 and we will support our students as best we can. For questions regarding quarantine, isolation, duration dates, please ask for the school nurse when you call.
